How Your Impression should Look
NORMANDY
The following images and information will illustrate how the 501st paratrooper should look for the Normandy impression.
The M1C Helmet
We portray D-Company, 1st Battalion, 501st P.I.R (101st Airborne Division) so your helmet should have a diamond insignia (Stencil available to group members - see forum) with a small rectangle (Quarter past three - denotes the 1st Battalion). The helmet shell can be used plain, with net (1/2 inch British made only) or with net & scrim. Resist using the helmet scrim if portraying a Normandy impression after the month of June - the scrim was only used to take away the definition of the helmet making the paratrooper harder to define when in combat, however after a few days into the campaign it would appear that the para's found little use for it and therefore was removed.

The M1C is a front seamed helmet (Later versions were rear seamed) that has swivel bale fixings (The M2 earlier helmet had D-Ring fixings) - 'A' frames and leather chin cup - the one illustrated above also shows how the normal helmet straps wrapped around the rear and front to keep them out of the way.
The stippling effect you can see on the helmet is called 'corking' and is used to take the flat surface away from the helmet, to create shadows, thus making it harder to define from a distance.
